Through her artistic practice and research, the feminist artist Virginie Jourdain investigates the shaping and establishment of norms attached to power, gender, sex and sexuality. Deciphering current discourse and assertions of expertise in the areas of jurisprudence, medicine, culture and politics, the artist seeks to reconfigure the practices, objects and gestures that, seemingly benign,  reinforce entrenched norms. Curator of the 2017 Ressources Humaines, Frac Lorraine (Metz), 2016, Trans Time (Paris) 2015 exhibition De la part des vaincus (Nantes, Fr), and Trans Time (Montréal, Ca) 2006 exhibition, Revolt, she said! at La Criée (Rennes, France) and of the 2005 Queer event in Paris, les 72 heures. Based in Montréal for several years now, the artist maintains a commitment to collective approaches in art production through both her performance and installation projects. Since 2009, she has held the position of Exhibitions Coordinator at the feminist artist-run centre La Centrale.
