HUMAN RESOURCES Féminismes & travail de l’art / Feminisms & Art Work Ressources humaines fut l’occasion d’échanges soutenus avec l’équipe du 49Nord 6Est – Frac Lorraine, qui s’est investie activement dans les enjeux mêmes de l’exposition et à toutes les étapes de sa mise en œuvre, en s’intéressant, notamment, aux conditions de travail de l’art à l’échelle du Frac et à une échelle beaucoup plus vaste. Ainsi, pour ce deuxième volet qui prend la forme d’une publication, il apparaissait essentiel d’aborder les réalités du travail de l’art à partir d’expériences vécues, en adoptant une perspective féministe et en prenant position par rapport à la question de la précarité qui fait norme, aux dilemmes éthiques et aux dynamiques de pouvoir, aux stratégies d’émancipation des valeurs néolibérales et patriarcales, et au travail gratuit, émotionnel ou invisible. Les personnes invitées à contribuer à cette publication participent de façon incarnée aux enjeux et aux débats entourant les conditions du travail de l’art. Elles et ils sont artistes, techniciennes et techniciens, critiques, directrices et directeurs de centres d’art, enseignantes et enseignants, commissaires, activistes, et occupent bien souvent tous les rôles à la fois. Leurs regards croisés et leurs expériences personnelles et professionnelles, livrés dans ces six textes à la tonalité explicitement subjective, permettent de cibler, d’une part, les dynamiques du travail de l’art et de se distancier, d’autre part, des modèles dictés par les institutions artistiques. Human Resources provided the opportunity for sustained exchanges with the team at 49Nord 6Est - Frac Lorraine, all of whom were actively invested in the exhibition as well as the various stages of its realisation, notably taking an interest in the conditions of art work at the Frac as well as on a much broader scale. Here to, in the form of a publication, it became essential to explore the reality of art work through lived experiences, adopting a feminist perspective and taking a position with regards to the question of precarity, still the norm for workers in the arts. Contributors consider ethical dilemmas, the dynamics of power, strategies for emancipation from neoliberal and patriarchal values, and the labour that is unpaid, emotional or invisible. They are fully engaged with the preoccupations and debates surrounding working conditions in the arts. They are artists, technicians, critics, art centre directors, teachers, curators, and activists, often filling all of these roles at the same time. Their varied perspectives and experiences both personal and professional, found in the explicitly subjective tone of these six texts, allow at once a focus on the dynamics of working in the arts while establishing distance from the models dictated by art institutions. Entretien avec Virginie Jourdain, artiste et commissaire d’exposition.   Pensées parisiennes : En quoi consiste « Ressources Humaines » ? Virginie Jourdain : C’est une exposition collective qui aborde la thématique du travail avec une perspective féministe : elle utilise la grille d’analyse féministe pour décrypter et envisager les dynamiques de pouvoir, les rapports de force, les discriminations systémiques associés au monde du travail, et au monde du travail de l’art.   © Mierle Laderman Ukeles PP : Pourquoi est-ce important d’approcher cette thématique avec une perspective féministe ? VJ : C’est une approche que je développe ici, mais c’est un de mes outils de prédilection dans ma démarche artistique. Cela développe des modes de travail collaboratif, et en tant que personne identifiée comme femme artiste, je travaille dans un milieu où les questions de visibilité des artistes femmes et des rapports de pouvoir se posent encore. Dans la galerie dans laquelle je travaille, on essaie de pratiquer la non-hiérarchie, et c’est ce que j’essaie également de mettre en place quand je suis en collaboration avec d’autres artistes et structures. Cette perspective permet évidemment d’ouvrir à la question des inégalités salariales, du racisme, du genre et sur les types de systèmes qui font que l’on valorise ou que l’on dévalorise certains types de professions. On dialogue aussi avec la réalité des artistes : quels sont ceux que l’on valorise, ceux que l’on dénigre… PP : Tu parlais de réhabiliter les travail des invisibles, mais en quoi l’artiste peut contribuer à cela ? VJ : L’artiste peut aider parce que son statut est assez particulier : il y a des mythes autour de cette profession, comme par exemple celui de l’artiste dans son atelier qui parvient à vivre de sa pratique parce qu’il vend à des collectionneurs. C’est comme une petite histoire romantique qu’on se raconte encore mais qui n’est pas la réalité pour de nombreux artistes. C’est très compliqué de maintenir une carrière, particulièrement pour les femmes artistes qui doivent cumuler les doubles journées entre la réalité de la vie familiale, avoir un travail alimentaire… On peut aussi le remarquer dans la répartition des tâches et des rôles dans le travail de l’art. Beaucoup de stagiaires et d’assistantes sont des femmes : tout ce travail invisible n’est que très peu reconnu, on ne donne pas ou très peu la parole aux administratrices des centres d’art. Je suis commissaire d’exposition, je ne suis qu’un maillon de la chaîne : sans l’équipe technique et administrative, il n’y aurait pas d’exposition. Avec l’équipe du FRAC, on a maintenu un dialogue tout au long de la conception de « Ressources humaines » afin d’entendre les avis et points de vues de ceux qui y travaillent et ceux qui travaillent dans d’autres structures, qui ont un rôle fondamental dans la création de la culture. Economiquement, on ne pourrait pas se passer de la culture, sauf que l’on ne reconnaît pas la contribution des personnes qui la créent.   © Olga Kisseleva De même que pour les artistes, il y a des mythes qui gravitent autour des travailleurs culturels, avec l’obligation de cette dévotion et la culture des heures supplémentaires, par exemple : travailler tard le soir, à n’importe quelle heure, être disponible… Parce que l’on fait un travail de passion, on devrait être dévoué corps et âme à ce que l’on fait. Mais pour moi, ce n’est pas féministe. Parce que tout le monde ne peut pas faire d’heures supplémentaires. Les réalités de vie de certaines personnes, comme les femmes monoparentales par exemple, font que tu dois partir du travail à 17h. C’est à tous ces oublié.e.s que j’ai pensé lors de la conception de l’exposition, mais également à tou.te.s celles et ceux qui ne peuvent ou simplement ne veulent pas travailler. PP : Qu’est-ce qui a dirigé ton choix d’artistes ? VJ : C’était important pour moi que je puisse comprendre leur perspective, pour arriver à être le plus juste possible dans ce que je peux apporter comme point de vue. Je trouvais également intéressant d’intégrer des contributions de militant.e.s, parce que ma nourriture intellectuelle s’est faite à travers l’enseignement universitaire, mais aussi l’activisme et le militantisme. Je voulais rendre hommage à ces personnes qui fournissent un travail bénévole et absolument crucial pour comprendre la société dans laquelle nous vivons. PP : Quels ateliers sont mis en place en même temps que l’exposition ? VJ : On a essayé de privilégier les pratiques collectives et les espaces de prise de parole et de don de parole à ceux qu’on n’entend peu ou pas, en particulier sur la question du rapport au travail et les incidences que ça a directement sur le corps. Il y a aussi une emphase sur les mouvements sociaux des femmes qui font du travail d’entretien et qui permettent aux structures d’être simplement fréquentables. Par leurs grèves, elles ont révélé le rôle indispensable dans les structures dans lesquelles elles travaillent, parce que si le lieu est propre, il est impossible de recevoir des visiteurs. Il y aura différents événements pour écouter ces femmes-là, connaître leur stratégie, quelles sont leurs revendications… PP : Est-ce que tu peux me parler de La Centrale ? VJ : Je travaille dans un centre d’artistes féministe non-hiérarchique qui a 41 ans maintenant. C’est un des premiers centres d’artistes autogérés au Canada. La programmation et l’organisation en interne se fait par et pour les artistes, ce qui permet de mettre de côté des pratiques autoritaires pour développer des modes d’organisation plus sains, plus inclusifs. C’est un travail sans fin, parce qu’il faut tout remettre en cause, et remettre en cause ses privilèges. Par exemple, j’ai eu la chance de faire des études, je suis blanche, j’ai de quoi me nourrir et me loger : ce sont des privilèges qu’il faut reconnaître, conscientiser, et éventuellement laisser aller. Plus largement, cela a été l’occasion de questionner le corps sur les scènes et dans les pratiques performatives. Enfin, notre dernier numéro, « DOUTES ET INVENTIVITÉ : Récits de recherche-création pour une recherche indéterminée » (2014)sous la direction de Jean-Paul Quéinnec (UQAC) nous a permis d’aborder de front la question de la recherche en arts vivants. Avec ce dernier numéro nous avons adopté une approche résolument interuniversitaire (avec la participation de la Chaire de recherche en dramaturgie sonore au théâtre) tout en poursuivant notre collaboration avec le milieu culturel. La collaboration de chercheurs chevronnés aux côtés d’étudiants, d’acteurs et d’artistes importants du champ culturel, aux côtés d’artistes émergents, nous a permis au moins en cet espace de voir se réaliser cette utopie d’un échange inclusif et réflexif. Les échanges publics (dans le cadre du Offta et à l’UQAC) ont témoigné de la richesse de notre milieu, mais aussi de la grande fragilité de la recherche artistique au Québec en arts vivants.   Avec la complicité de Roxanne Robillard à la codirection de ce numéro, je peux dire que nous sommes très fières de clore notre parcours au sein d’aparté avec un numéro représentatif des ambitions premières de la revue. On le sait, il est difficile aujourd’hui de rêver à des projets ambitieux dans le milieu culturel, tout autant qu'il est difficile de les maintenir vivant sur le long terme, on en vient à accepter la précarité comme étant un paramètre inéluctable à tout projet culturel, qu’il soit éditorial ou scénique. Avec aparté nous avons réussi à trouver nos propres moyens pour faire grandir le projet et nous quittons le projet en ayant le sentiment d'être allés jusqu'au bout de notre expérience. C'est pourquoi, aujourd’hui, nous passons ce projet à une nouvelle cohorte dynamique qui saura s’approprier cet espace et donner forme à leurs ambitions. Je souhaite une belle continuité à aparté et salue le travail éditorial mené avec la générosité de mes collègues Milena Buziak, Philippe Dumaine et Roxanne Robillard. Je salue aussi l’implication sur le plan organisationnel et financier d’Audrey-Anne Cyr. Tout autant que le travail graphique réalisé par Edgar Nemere (no.1) et Julien Hébert (no.2 et no.3), qui ont donné forme à la revue en développant une signature graphique dont je suis très fière.
